Forecasts for 2026

David MoonBlog

Making forecasts is always difficult, especially, as Yogi Berra famously noted, when trying to make them about the future. Nonetheless, here is my best guess about some things likely to happen in 2026.  Or maybe not.

After stepping down as Berkshire Hathaway CEO, Warren Buffett will open a chain of Minnesota day care centers. In a press release, Buffett will explain, “I’ve spent 70 years watching all these other people getting rich off the government; time to see firsthand how it works.”

Amazon will launch Prime Quantum Delivery, promising to ship packages before you order them using AI.  Warehouses will overflow with unsold fidget spinners after it misreads global boredom trends.

Private equity firms will chase “sustainable” investments in lab-grown meat, but prices collapse when the FDA reveals the “beef” is actually recycled tofu from a failed startup vegan food truck in Hazel Green, Alabama.

Walmart will partner with TikTok to create “Shopper Roulette,” where AI randomly swaps items in your cart at checkout; lawsuits ensue when a vegan gets a pallet of bacon, which Walmart will blame on “algorithmic diversity initiatives.”

Meta will admit that its metaverse wasn’t a “new frontier for human connection,” but rather a clever way to write off the cost of Mark Zuckerberg’s virtual yacht collection. Zuck will pivot to selling NFT beachfront property which will be the first real estate in history to literally cease to exist following a server outage.

Taylor Swift will release an album entirely generated by AI, topping charts until fans realize the lyrics are just recycled Reddit comments.

The AI bubble will finally burst when a viral video shows ChatGPT confessing it’s just a glorified autocomplete run by interns in Bangalore.

Boeing’s CEO will resign after a whistleblower reveals that the 737’s fuselage is held together with generic duct tape. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffey will respond by mandating in-flight prayers.

Netflix will cancel all original shows in favor of “Reality Remix,” where AI deepfakes historical figures into modern dating shows—Abraham Lincoln swiping left on Cleopatra becomes a surprise hit.

Hollywood will reboot every 1980s movie with diverse casts, but “Ghostbusters: Woke Edition” flops when the ghosts sue for “spectral discrimination” in a landmark court case.

Gen Z will declare email obsolete, replacing it with holographic memes that self-destruct after 10 seconds, leading to a surge in misunderstood job offers and accidental breakups.

Democrats will impeach Trump for the third time, this time over “excessive tweeting.” The trial will end in acquittal after the Senate gets distracted by a viral cat video.

HHS Secretary RFK, Jr. will ban seed oils, sparking a black market in french fries and a surprising alliance between fast-food chains and libertarian militias.
